ROCCO CONTINUES TO ROLL AT THE SPEEDBOWL
Joey Ternullo takes his third Legend Car win
WATERFORD, CT (July 22, 2017) Keith Rocco is quickly racking up the wins at The New London Waterford Speedbowl. The Berlin, CT driver captured his third SK Modified feature of the year in four starts. Rocco made it look easy as on a restart Rocco was battling Plainville, CT’s Ted Christopher. Rocco simply out muscled Christopher on the outside and cruised to the win in the 35-lap main. Christopher settled in for second on his debut at The Bowl in 2017. Rounding out the top five were Kyle James, Todd Owens and Rob Janovic Jr. The win put Rocco’s win total to 140 at The Bowl. Janovic and Christopher took down the heat wins.
In the Late Model feature it was a little bit easier for the Berlin, CT resident. After the Late Models held group qualifying, with the top five being inverted. When the field lined up for the 30-lap event it was Rocco sitting on the pole. Once the green waved it was all Rocco as he led every lap and took down his second Late Model event of the year. Rounding out the top five after Rocco was Jason Palmer, Anthony Flannery, Tyler Chapman and Mike Benevides. Leading the way in group qualifying was Chapman with a time of 15.746.
Ken Cassidy Jr after a sluggish start to start his 2017 campaign at The Bowl, took charged and nailed his first win in the 25-lap Mini Stock event. It took three side by side laps with Ian Brew before Cassidy could make it stick on the inside groove and grabbed the win. Rounding the top five were Sean Caron, Wayne Burroughs Jr, Jordan Hadley and Ian Brew. “We had some issues in practice with the car and we kept working on it and got it just right for the feature,” commented Cassidy. Charles Canfields and Jacob Perry took down the heat wins.
Middletown, CT’s Joey Ternullo continued his hot streak in the Legends division. Ternullo who started towards the back of the field as the green waved to start the 25-lap featured event. Within a couple of laps in the books Ternullo made his move on the outside and never looked back. Ternullo lap after lap was extending his lead over Kyle Rodgers. With the caution coming out after Corey Caddick slapping the turn for wall, it gave the field one last change of knocking Ternullo off. As the green waved it was Ternullo jetting back to a commanding lead and his third win of the season. Following Ternullo to the line we were Brandon Martinez, Rogers, Shileigh Martinez and Johnathan Puleo. Rachel Forte and Corey Caddick took down the heat wins.
In the 25-lap SK Lite feature it was Hamden, CT’s Andrew Molleur taking his first career Lite win. When the green waved it was Wayne Burroughs Jr grabbing the lead and appeared to have the dominate car. It was Molleur who took advantage of Alan Gombos defaulting twice on a restart attempt. Molleur line up on the outside of Burroughs. As the green waved the two ran side by side until Molleur found the outside groove to his likng and grabbed the lead. With only a handful of laps it was Dennis Charette making his move but time just ran out on Charette’s attempt. Charette who was on vacation in Rhode Island didn’t get to the Speedbowl till feature time. It was Molleur’s second race in the SK Lite division in 2017. Finished third was Dana DiMatteo, Burroughs and Chris Gombos rounded out the top five. Burroughs and Molleur took down heat wins.
In just his second season in the Limited Sportsman division in was Plainville, CT’s Adrien Paradis taking the 25-lap event. Paradis started on the pole and shot out to the lead and had to battle for the win after six restarts. Paradis used a couple of slower cars to hold Monte Gibbs, last week’s winner in the runner up spot. “I have to thank my crew and all the hard work they put into the car. The car was hooked tonight,” summed up Paradis. Gibbs, Jordan Hadley, Jason Chicolas and Shawn Monahan rounded out the top five. Paradis and Jason Chicolas took down heat wins.
