It Was A Night Of Hard Hits And Repeat Winners
-Kyle Gero Wins Third X-Car Feature Of The Year-

WATERFORD, CT (August 9, 2017): With a loaded Bandoleros field, Kensington, CT driver Tyler Alkas out muscled Zachary Martinez on a lap three restart and cruised to his second win of the 2017 campaign. With the top five checking out and running single file, Alkas held the inside groove and stumbled into lapped traffic with five to go Alkas held his ground and held off a hard charging Martinez to take the 20-lap feature. Rounding out the top five were Alkas, Martinez, Ari Jencik, Andrew Morin and Maddie Harkin.

Uncasville, CT’s Kyle Gero show who was boss in the 25-lap X-Car Feature. Gero started 17th on the field and was heading to the front in a hurry. Gero used a late caution flag for a slowing Dylan Decoster. Gero used the high groove and raced CP Burdick side by side for a handful of laps until he muscled his way to the point. Once in front Gero had clear sailing to his third win of the year.” Man, this car was great tonight, it was good in practice and we knew we had a winning car. It started to overheat at the end and the checkered flag couldn’t come quick enough,” commented Gero. Rounding the top five were Gero, Eddie Loomis, CP Burdick, Wayne Shifflett and Jeremy Bourbeau.

Twenty-one Legends Cars took the green for their 25-lap event. Branford, CT’s Anthony Pantani shot out to the early lead and started to pull away instantly. The lead erased right away as Joey Ternullo clipped the backstretch wall and ended his night without a lap completed. As the green waved it was Pantani shooting out front again. The top three drivers Pantani, Carl Blandina and Peter Bennett got three wide and battled for the lead. The action came to a halt as David Johnson avoided a spinning car in front of his machine and ended up slamming the wall head first. The race was red flagged as the track services came to Johnson’s aid. Johnson was alert and transported to the hospital for observations. Once the green waved the race had a new leader. Brandon Martinez grabbed the lead and had to withstand a three-lap shootout as the caution waved and Martinez held off the field for the win. Rounding out the top five behind Martinez were Carl Blandina, Peter Bennett, Johnathon Puleo and Tim Depizzol.

The final event of the evening was the 25-lap Super X-Cars feature. Fifteen cars took to the track to battle for the win. Chris Taylor in the #21ct grabbed the lead and looked like he was the car to beat. Taylor shot out to a ten-car length lead and was starting to ahead even more until the red flag waved as a group of cars banged each other with the group slamming into the wall. None of the five cars could continue the event. Included in the group was the #87 of ray Reed who was the point leader going into the event. On the restart, it was Taylor slipping up and gave the lead to Marc Shafer. Shafer had to hold off a hard charging Don Berge as the two pulled away from the field. With the two-battling lap after lap it was Taylor slipping back to fifth. The dual checkered wave with Shafer as he held off a determined Berge for the win.
