Tyler Alkas Takes Third Bandoleros Win

-Points Battle Heating Up With Three Weeks Left-

WATERFORD, CT (August 23, 2017): In the Bandoleros 20-lap feature event, it was Tyler Alkas finding victory lane for the third time in the 2017 season. Alkas started on the pole in the Avery Beverages #89 and shot out to the lead as the green flag waved. Alkas was pressured on numerous occasions and managed to maintain his rhythm to take down the win. Rounding out the top-5 were Maddie Harkin, Ari Jencik, Emma Monahan and Anthony Bevilacqua.

It was a tough start for the X-Cars for their 25-lap feature. As soon as the polesitter Bruce Sperry took the green his car faltered sending the top half of the field scrambling and brought out the first of four cautions in the first three laps. Once the field got settled down it was Bill Rheaume and Dylan Cabral battling side by side for the lead. The two would swap leads until Cabral was able to squeeze into the lead and hold off Rheaume for the win. Points leader Kyle Gero was involved in an early skirmish in turn three and regrouped to finish third to stay atop of the points, rounding out the top five were Will Rheaume in fourth and Wayne Shifflett in fifth. With only three Wednesday left in the season, Gero is still holding a slim lead in the points battle.

In the 25-lap Super X-Cars it was Keith Scalia in the Critical Signs #9 dominating the event. Scalia started in the ninth starting spot and sliced his way to the front. Scalia out muscle Polesitter Chris Taylor down the back stretch for the lead on lap-11 and was untouchable as he cruised for the win. Finishing in the runner-up position was the point leader Don Berge. Berge had some issues while under a caution period as it appeared he had a fire under the hood in his Don’s Logging and Firewood sponsored #29.  Berge was able to regroup and maintain the points lead. Finishing third through fifth were Marc Shafer, Ray Reed and Denny Lee Hoffman.

The 25-lap Legends feature started with polesitter John Kraft spinning his car on the front stretch as the green waved. David Shinder had no place to go and planted his #67 machine in the turn-1 wall bringing out the red flag. As the event restarted it was now John O’Sullivan in the orange and black #51 sitting on the point. O’Sullivan grabbed the lead awhile it was Mike Blaskey moving his way to the front. Blaskey made a strong move on the outside of O’Sullivan and grabbed the lead and held off the field for the win. It was Blaskey’s first win of the season. Finishing in the top five was Blaskey, O’Sullivan, Tim Depizzol, Noah Korner and Carl Blandina. For Korner, the defending champion it was his first start of the 2017 season.
