Wild -n- Wacky Wednesday 9/13/17 Race Recap
Kyle Gero Takes Seventh X-Car Feature Of 2017
-Michael Blaskey Wins Forth In A Row In The Legends-
WATERFORD, CT (September 13, 2017): Kyle Gero started twenty first on the grid and paced himself on the way to the front. The Uncasville, CT driver chipped away through the field and by the half way mark was sitting in the top five. What looked like it was “The Neon Cowboy” Eddie Loomis’s race by leading nineteen of the 25-laps. The race was slowed by a caution with three laps to go setting up a green-white-checkered finish. Loomis darted out to the lead until Gero was able to out muscle Loomis down the backstretch for the lead and the win. Rounding out the top-5 were Gero, Loomis, Christopher Lee, CP Burdick and Wayne Shifflett. Gero will be; looking to lock down the point championship next Wednesday as it will be the final Wednesday event of the 2-17 season.
In the 20-lap Bandoleros event it was “The Mad Dog” Maddie Harkin taking down her second win of the season. Harkin wasn’t no time grabbing the lead as she jumped to the point as the green waved to start the event. The only thing to slow down Portsmouth, RI was a caution that was brought out by Kensington, CT’s Tyler Alkas, whose car was bumped into the infield and slowed. On the restart Harkin jumped back out to the lead and conquered the field. Finishing in the runner-up spot was Ethan Simmons, his best finish of the season. Rounding out the top five were Nicholas Hover, Brody Monahan and PJ Evans. Monahan’s fourth place finished was his best finish of the 2017 season. By finishing eighth Ari Jencik took home the $25 bonus put up by KMG Construction.
As soon as the green flag waved to start the 25-lap Legends Feature the yellow appeared just as quickly as the #08 Mac Electric sponsored machine of Colin Haley was pushed into the turn one wall. On the restart, it was “The Coach” Michael Blaskey taking the lead from the third spot as the top-3 went three wide going into turns three and four. Blaskey would hold off both Anthony Marvin and John O’Sullivan’s attempts at the lead to take down his third consultative Wednesday night Legend win. Blaskey is the hottest driver in the division as he also took down last Saturday night’s win, pushing his streak to his fourth consecutive win in a row. Rounding out the top-five was O’Sullivan, Peter Bennett, David Lespinasse and Mason Levesque in fifth.
In the final event of the night it was Keith Scalia taking down his third Super X-Car feature in a row. Scalia started the 25-lap event in the fourteenth starting spot. As the green flag, waved it was Raymond Reed jumping to the lead from his fifth starting spot and was looking like it was his race to lose. It wasn’t until the caution flag would appear as the point leader Don Berge slowed between turns three and four with his Don’s Fire Wood and Logging sponsored #29 sitting with smoke coming from underneath his car. Once the race was resumed it was Reed and Scalia battling side by side for the lead as Scalia finally put his Critical Signs sponsored #9 in front. The race was slowed one last time with three laps to go setting up another green-white-checkered finish. After two attempts at restarting the event, Scalia shot to the lead leaving second to fourth place battle for the runner up spot. As the checkered waved it was Scalia, John Yagmin, Raymond Reed, Peter Martin and George Avery Jr rounding out the top five.
