Robbins Scores X-Car win in Photo Finish

WATERFORD – Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday would return to action on June 7, with Milania Shilosky and Isaiah Newcomb continuing their winning streaks, while Marc Shafer and Wade Robbins would make take to victory for the first time this year.

To kick off the night, Shilosky would have to start mid pack the INEX Bandolero Division. She would quickly make her way to second place and put on a great side by side battle with the 19 of Conner Doyon. The two would make slight contact coming of turn 4 causing a few cars to spin behind them. On the restart, the 19 of Doyon would spin and collect the field. The move of the race was made at this moment. The 15 of Warren Matteson, would end up doing his best Ross Chastain impression, by riding the outside wall around an accident car and ending up in second place. After a quick track clean up, Shilosky would pull away for another dominate victory. Matteson (15) would finish second, while Doyon (19) would round out your top three.

Up next on the schedule would be the Super X. The 58 of Marc Shafer would lead the field to green, after his heat race win earlier in the evening. Shafer would jump out to an early lead while Evan Donnellan (20)  would settle into second place. A caution would stack up the field, and on the restart Shafer once again would pull away. The 20 of Donnellan would not be so lucky as he would quicky be swarmed for second place. Caution would stack up the field once more, but nobody was a match for Shafer (58) on this evening. Sean Skinner (24) and Ray Reed (87) would round out your top three.

In the INEX Legend Car Division, it was Reigning and Defending Champion, Isaiah Newcomb taking down the win. He would take the lead early and pull away from the 91 of Riley Paul to stay undefeated in 2023. Paul (91) would finish in second, but the feel good story would be your third place finisher. Dylan Cote (02) would make heavy contact in group qualifying with another car, almost ending his night. With the help of his crew, and support from other teams, he was able to make it back out there for the feature and land it on the podium!

Capping off the night’s events, would be the stars of the X-Cars. It would be the number 1 car of Chuck Burdick starting on the pole alongside the 67 of Wade Robbins. Robbins(67) would take the lead and start to drive away. A few cautions would stack the field back up, allowing last week’s double feature winner, Dylan Cabral to catch up and land in second.  Robbins (67) and Cabral (19) would put a on battle for the top spot for a handful of laps. On the last lap, Cabral (19) was able to work his way to inside of Robbins (19) and the two would drag race to finish line with Robbins (67) would win by just 0.031! Cabral (19) would finish second. Rounding out your top three would be Sam Mesick (7x). It was Robbins’ very first Speedbowl win.

Our next event is Saturday June 10th when the Northeast Midget Association comes to town to join Speedbowl Saturday Nights.  Then next Wednesday, June 14th, there will be a special 35 lap main event for the Super X-Cars to raise awareness to find a cure for HHT, a rare blood disorder. Keep up with us at www.speedbowlct.com, on Facebook at The New London-Waterford Speedbowl, or on Instagram and Twitter @SpeedbowlCT.
