Speedbowl Saturday Nights Mid-Season Point Preview
We’re at the halfway point in the season for Speedbowl Saturday Nights and the action is just heating up.
Chris Garside’s return to full time Mini Stock competition has him in the point lead by 12. With 3 wins and being the only driver to have not missed the top 5 so far, he’s often showing John Bavolacco his rear bumper.
With Bavolacco comfortably in second place, the spotlight shines on the battle for third. Bill Sylvia, 31 points out of the lead, sits ahead of Jared Roy, Defending Champion Charles Canfield, and Nick Pappacoda. All four drivers are separated by only 6 points.
2022 Wednesday night Legend Car Champion Isaiah Newcomb is currently atop the Saturday standings as well in 2023. He’s the only driver on the Saturday schedule with multiple wins in the division.
Sitting in second with a win to his name, Dylan Cote has an 11 point deficit to make up. The battle for third between Dylan Freeman and Nick Bulkeley is separated by only 1 point, 18 and 19 out from Newcomb.
Rounding out the top 5, Dennis Pantani has a 6 point advantage over Riley Paul.
They’re off for the next two weeks, but you can still catch them on Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesdays.
Brody Monahan’s 6 consecutive wins gives him a large cushion atop the Truck standings, that’s a little more spread out than the other divisions.
Kyle Gero is a whole 32 points out, more than 1 race can award, in second. However he is in a comfortable second.
Tony Naglieri sits third, 50 points back with Bandolero graduate Brad Strickland in fourth 57 points out.
A rule infraction set the Ed Ryan Jr team behind the 8 ball early but he is currently still in fifth place. Sean Caron and Charles Beal are both within 2 points of Ryan.
The Trucks are off this week, giving the drivers more time to do their homework to take down Monahan.
The quest for the SK Light championship is hotly contested this season with a very tight point battle.
Tyler Chapmans return to weekly competition has him atop the standings without a win by only 1 point over Evan Bourgeois. Tied for third and 9 points from the lead, Nickolas Hovey and Johnny O’Sullivan.
Zack Sangermano and Jake Hines are 14 and 15 points out of the lead. Tied for 7th and 18 points out, Ethan Durocher and Isaiah Newcomb face off, and the defending Champion Tom Abele Jr sits 9th 23 points out, fresh off his win. Threatening to jump into the top 5, Sami Anderson could leap frog the pack with a couple solid runs.
In the 5 events contested, we’ve had 5 different winners.
Defending Street Stock champion Shawn Gaedeke is making the run for his third championship this season, with a mere 6 point lead over division win leader Al Stone III.
Gaedeke leads the division in top 10s, not missing it once in 8 races, while Stone has been plagued with mechanical issues the last 2 trips out.
Behind Stone on the all time win list and in the standings, Ed Gertsch Jr sits 8 points out of the lead and is knocking on the door to add to his win total.
Jaysin Beal in fourth has a second wind as we proceed through the season, piloting the 12 car in the last few races. He currently has a 23 point deficit to make up.
Rounding out the top 5, Tony Macrino sits 32 points out. Had he not have had a parts failure a couple weeks ago, he could be duking it out with the top 3. Still, his strong runs will be helpful in closing the gap.
They headline the show on this weeks edition of Speedbowl Saturday Nights going 60 laps in their main event.
What was once a comfortable lead by Ray Christian III in the Late Models has quickly deteriorated to a 2 point deficit to Jason Palmer. The two have both had hot and cold weeks up to this point, in uncharacteristic fashion.
Regardless, the two are still the class of the field as Charles Bailey III lurks within striking distance in third, 21 points out.
Emma Monahan’s rookie season has been challenging, but she sits fourth, 7 points ahead of Josh Hedges who joined us late in the season.
Back to back SK Modified®️ champion Todd Owen is poised to make a bid at three-straight. Him and Eric Berndt sit at the top separated by only 3 points.
Tim Jordan was in good shape until an incident took him out of contention last week. But all is not lost, as he’s 25 points from the lead. Anthony Flannery is riding it out in 4th place right now, taking a week off when Tom Fox drove the #25 car.
The battle for 5th is tight, with Troy Talman overcoming motor and chassis issues early in the season having a 2 point advantage over Paul Buzel.
