GLUCHACKI WINS BIG IN FULL FENDERED THROWDOWN; CHAPMAN WINS EIGHTH TRUCK RACE

WATERFORD – Nineteen Late Models descended on the shoreline oval to throw down for 100 laps. Cory DiMatteo quickly took over the race lead in just his second start of the season. Devin Deshaies slipped into second and they would remain in that order as the rest of the field sorted themselves out in the pack. 2022 Champion Ray Christian III and ACT Late Model standout Derek Gluchacki were the first to make the move into second, as DiMatteo padded his lead. A couple cautions kept giving Gluchacki a chance to swipe at the lead but it wasn’t until the halfway point that a battle would ensue, with ACT regular Erick Sands and defending champion Jason Palmer in the rearview. A lap 58 caution set Palmer up against Gluchacki in an intense side by side battle that would last a few laps before Gluchacki took sole possession of the top spot, sending Palmer into a battle with Sands. The extra distance race all boiled down to a regular distance 30 lap main when Sands checked out the infield. The 30 laps clicked off without incident and Gluchacki would make sure his dominance on the day paid off, pocketing $3,000 for the win.

For the second week in a row, Shawn Gaedeke kicked off the Street Stock race with a massive lead that would get wiped away when the caution flew, this time on lap 4. Aaron Plemons restarted from third to clear Jon Porter and set his sights on Gaedeke. Norm Root III was the first to break away from the pack of cars that would find themselves in multiple three-wide situations. Gaedeke won the drag race off the line on a restart just under halfway, but Plemons was able to recover and throw his nose in to duel for the lead. The top 6 cars raced under a blanket and eventually Plemons was able to clear the pack and take sole possession of the lead. He held off Ed Gertsch Jr over the final four laps to win his third race of the season, and slip back into the point lead.

Milania Shilosky led a field of 18 Trucks to green and quickly opened up a sizable gap over Austin Long who had settled into second. The race ran fairly clean for the first half, as Tyler Chapman was the first to slice and dice his way through the pack. But with twelve laps to go, contact between Shilosky and lapped traffic sent the rookie driver to the back of the field. Long and Chapman led the field to green when the race resumed, and it was all but over. Chapman continued his stranglehold on the division even with a couple more cautions re-racking the field. The final restart with 6 to go allowed last weeks winner Brad Strickland to take a shot at Long, landing him with a second place finish.

Erica Canfield shot off the line in the Mini Stocks over Jason Kokoszka who immediately had his hand full. With a three wide battle behind him, Nick Pappacoda was the first to scootch into second and reel in Erica, taking over the lead. In his mirror, Charles Canfield and John Bavolacco were on the move with Charles making an outside pass when the caution flew just short of halfway. The top three with the addition of Tim Dorr were now taking shots at the top spot until Charles was able to clear for the lead and run for cover away from Bavolacco. David Dorr came from the rear of the field, and together with Tim had passed Pappacoda for their own race to round out the podium with David winning that battle. Out in front, Bavolacco started pecking at Charles bumper and engage in a side by side battle that resulted in Charles winning by a bumper at the line.

Long time Speedbowl competitor and fifteenth on the all time win list Corey Hutchings took down Crystal Serydynski right off the bat in the Open Street Stocks, with eleventh on the list of Al Stone III right in his tire tracks. It only took Ryan Lineham 6 laps to take his rocketship from 6th to 1st, passing Hutchings with ease. Stone would work Hutchings over, slipping into second, and that’s how they would run working through lapped traffic in the caution free event. Lineham would cross the line on the heels of seventh place to remain undefeated in Open Street Stock competition.

Chris Winsor captured his first Speedbowl win in the 50 lap Compact Enduro.
